Executive Director of Sainsbury’s was filmed singing “we’re in the money” in the same day he announced the blockbuster merger with Asda.
Waiting for an interview with ITV, Mike coupe began warbling one of the most famous songs from the musical 42nd street. In the clip, released by the TV company, he sings “we’re in the money, the sky is Sunny. Let’s lend it, spend it, send it rolling along.”
Sainsbury’s is not to see the funny side of ITV releasing the clip. In a statement, the coupe that expects Sainsbury’s to win £500 million in extra profit from the deal, said he wrote before the interview.
“It was a bad song choice, from the musical “42nd street,” which I saw last year. And I apologize if I offended anyone,” said coupe, who is an experienced musician.
A representative of Sainsbury’s said: “We all know these songs stay in your head. To give a broader meaning to this innocent, my point is absurd.”
