Frozen: the construction industry is trying to grow, despite the warm weather

Builders in the UK are trying to take more work, as the ordering of books SAG and costs of materials increase, frustrating hopes that the industry will rebound from the snow-hit first quarter of 2018.

Business activity rose only slowly in may, according to the index of purchasing managers by markit analyst, which is kept at 52.5 – only modestly above the 50 level that indicates no change on the month.

Housing construction is leading the way with stronger growth than trade or construction work.

But reducing the number of new orders declined for the fourth time in five months, indicating this may be as good as it gets for the sector.
